Canada Immigration
by Eric F.
Coming to Canada as an immigrant is an exciting opportunity though there are several things to consider before applying for permanent residentancy.
In most cases you must apply at a Canadian visa office located outside of Canada. In some cases you can apply to become a permanent resident after arriving in Canada. Say for example you are a live-in caregivers or people that are granted refugee protection can apply within Canada.
If you want to immigrate to Canada there are a few different ways to apply. You will need to decide which immigration program will work best for you and your family.
One of the ways is to sponsor a family member:
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) knows it is important to help families who come from other countries to reunite in Canada. If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you can sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, dependent child (including adopted child) or other eligible relative (such as a parent or grandparent) to become a permanent resident.
We will be sharing more in upcoming articles.

Mesothelioma Information

Mesothelioma: Questions and Answers
Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer in which malignant (cancerous) cells are found in the mesothelium, a protective sac that covers most of the body’s internal organs. Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles.
1. What is the mesothelium?
The mesothelium is a membrane that covers and protects most of the internal organs of the body. It is composed of two layers of cells: One layer immediately surrounds the organ; the other forms a sac around it. The mesothelium produces a lubricating fluid that is released between these layers, allowing moving organs (such as the beating heart and the expanding and contracting lungs) to glide easily against adjacent structures.
The mesothelium has different names, depending on its location in the body. The peritoneum is the mesothelial tissue that covers most of the organs in the abdominal cavity. The pleura is the membrane that surrounds the lungs and lines the wall of the chest cavity. The pericardium covers and protects the heart. The mesothelial tissue surrounding the male internal reproductive organs is called the tunica vaginalis testis. The tunica serosa uteri covers the internal reproductive organs in women.
2. What is mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma (cancer of the mesothelium) is a disease in which cells of the mesothelium become abnormal and divide without control or order. They can invade and damage nearby tissues and organs. Cancer cells can also metastasize (spread) from their original site to other parts of the body. Most cases of mesothelioma begin in the pleura or peritoneum.
3. How common is mesothelioma?
Although reported incidence rates have increased in the past 20 years, mesothelioma is still a relatively rare cancer. About 2,000 new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed in the United States each year. Mesothelioma occurs more often in men than in women and risk increases with age, but this disease can appear in either men or women at any age.
4. What are the risk factors for mesothelioma?
Working with asbestos is the major risk factor for mesothelioma. A history of asbestos exposure at work is reported in about 70 percent to 80 percent of all cases. However, mesothelioma has been reported in some individuals without any known exposure to asbestos.
Asbestos is the name of a group of minerals that occur naturally as masses of strong, flexible fibers that can be separated into thin threads and woven. Asbestos has been widely used in many industrial products, including cement, brake linings, roof shingles, flooring products, textiles, and insulation. If tiny asbestos particles float in the air, especially during the manufacturing process, they may be inhaled or swallowed, and can cause serious health problems. In addition to mesothelioma, exposure to asbestos increases the risk of lung cancer, asbestosis (a noncancerous, chronic lung ailment), and other cancers, such as those of the larynx and kidney.
Smoking does not appear to increase the risk of mesothelioma. However, the combination of smoking and asbestos exposure significantly increases a person’s risk of developing cancer of the air passageways in the lung.
5. Who is at increased risk for developing mesothelioma?
Asbestos has been mined and used commercially since the late 1800s. Its use greatly increased during World War II. Since the early 1940s, millions of American workers have been exposed to asbestos dust. Initially, the risks associated with asbestos exposure were not known. However, an increased risk of developing mesothelioma was later found among shipyard workers, people who work in asbestos mines and mills, producers of asbestos products, workers in the heating and construction industries, and other tradespeople. Today, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sets limits for acceptable levels of asbestos exposure in the workplace. People who work with asbestos wear personal protective equipment to lower their risk of exposure.
The risk of asbestos-related disease increases with heavier exposure to asbestos and longer exposure time. However, some individuals with only brief exposures have developed mesothelioma. On the other hand, not all workers who are heavily exposed develop asbestos-related diseases.
There is some evidence that family members and others living with asbestos workers have an increased risk of developing mesothelioma, and possibly other asbestos-related diseases. This risk may be the result of exposure to asbestos dust brought home on the clothing and hair of asbestos workers. To reduce the chance of exposing family members to asbestos fibers, asbestos workers are usually required to shower and change their clothing before leaving the workplace.
6. What are the symptoms of mesothelioma?
Symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until 30 to 50 years after exposure to asbestos. Shortness of breath and pain in the chest due to an accumulation of fluid in the pleura are often symptoms of pleural mesothelioma. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include weight loss and abdominal pain and swelling due to a buildup of fluid in the abdomen. Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include bowel obstruction, blood clotting abnormalities, anemia, and fever. If the cancer has spread beyond the mesothelium to other parts of the body, symptoms may include pain, trouble swallowing, or swelling of the neck or face.
These symptoms may be caused by mesothelioma or by other, less serious conditions. It is important to see a doctor about any of these symptoms. Only a doctor can make a diagnosis.
7. How is mesothelioma diagnosed?
Diagnosing mesothelioma is often difficult, because the symptoms are similar to those of a number of other conditions. Diagnosis begins with a review of the patient’s medical history, including any history of asbestos exposure. A complete physical examination may be performed, including x-rays of the chest or abdomen and lung function tests. A CT (or CAT) scan or an MRI may also be useful. A CT scan is a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body created by a computer linked to an x-ray machine. In an MRI, a powerful magnet linked to a computer is used to make detailed pictures of areas inside the body. These pictures are viewed on a monitor and can also be printed.
A biopsy is needed to confirm a diagnosis of mesothelioma. In a biopsy, a surgeon or a medical oncologist (a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating cancer) removes a sample of tissue for examination under a microscope by a pathologist. A biopsy may be done in different ways, depending on where the abnormal area is located. If the cancer is in the chest, the doctor may perform a thoracoscopy. In this procedure, the doctor makes a small cut through the chest wall and puts a thin, lighted tube called a thoracoscope into the chest between two ribs. Thoracoscopy allows the doctor to look inside the chest and obtain tissue samples. If the cancer is in the abdomen, the doctor may perform a peritoneoscopy. To obtain tissue for examination, the doctor makes a small opening in the abdomen and inserts a special instrument called a peritoneoscope into the abdominal cavity. If these procedures do not yield enough tissue, more extensive diagnostic surgery may be necessary.
If the diagnosis is mesothelioma, the doctor will want to learn the stage (or extent) of the disease. Staging involves more tests in a careful attempt to find out whether the cancer has spread and, if so, to which parts of the body. Knowing the stage of the disease helps the doctor plan treatment.
Mesothelioma is described as localized if the cancer is found only on the membrane surface where it originated. It is classified as advanced if it has spread beyond the original membrane surface to other parts of the body, such as the lymph nodes, lungs, chest wall, or abdominal organs.
8. How is mesothelioma treated?
Treatment for mesothelioma depends on the location of the cancer, the stage of the disease, and the patient’s age and general health. Standard treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Sometimes, these treatments are combined.
* Surgery is a common treatment for mesothelioma. The doctor may remove part of the lining of the chest or abdomen and some of the tissue around it. For cancer of the pleura (pleural mesothelioma), a lung may be removed in an operation called a pneumonectomy. Sometimes part of the diaphragm, the muscle below the lungs that helps with breathing, is also removed.
* Radiation therapy, also called radiotherapy, involves the use of high-energy rays to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Radiation therapy affects the cancer cells only in the treated area. The radiation may come from a machine (external radiation) or from putting materials that produce radiation through thin plastic tubes into the area where the cancer cells are found (internal radiation therapy).
* Chemotherapy is the use of anticancer drugs to kill cancer cells throughout the body. Most drugs used to treat mesothelioma are given by injection into a vein (intravenous, or IV). Doctors are also studying the effectiveness of putting chemotherapy directly into the chest or abdomen (intracavitary chemotherapy).
To relieve symptoms and control pain, the doctor may use a needle or a thin tube to drain fluid that has built up in the chest or abdomen. The procedure for removing fluid from the chest is called thoracentesis. Removal of fluid from the abdomen is called paracentesis. Drugs may be given through a tube in the chest to prevent more fluid from accumulating. Radiation therapy and surgery may also be helpful in relieving symptoms.
9. Are new treatments for mesothelioma being studied?
Yes. Because mesothelioma is very hard to control, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is sponsoring clinical trials (research studies with people) that are designed to find new treatments and better ways to use current treatments. Before any new treatment can be recommended for general use, doctors conduct clinical trials to find out whether the treatment is safe for patients and effective against the disease. Participation in clinical trials is an important treatment option for many patients with mesothelioma.
People interested in taking part in a clinical trial should talk with their doctor. Information about clinical trials is available from the Cancer Information Service (CIS) (see below) at 1–800–4–CANCER. Information specialists at the CIS use PDQ®, NCI’s cancer information database, to identify and provide detailed information about specific ongoing clinical trials. Patients also have the option of searching for clinical trials on their own. The clinical trials page on the NCI’s Cancer.gov Web site, located at http://www.cancer.gov/clinicaltrials on the Internet, provides general information about clinical trials and links to PDQ.
People considering clinical trials may be interested in the NCI booklet Taking Part in Cancer Treatment Research Studies. This booklet describes how research studies are carried out and explains their possible benefits and risks. The booklet is available by calling the CIS, or from the NCI Publications Locator Web site at http://www.cancer.gov/publications on the Internet.

Mazda 3 Overview
by Eric F.
The current Mazda 3 is available in two body styles: a sedan or a four-door hatchback. The sedan is offered in five trim levels. There are two base “i” trims (i Sport and i Touring) and three upgraded “s” trims (s Sport, s Touring and s Grand Touring). The hatchback comes only in the three s trims. Front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags are now standard on all s trim levels.
In road tests and comparison tests, we found the Mazda 3 offers a superb driving experience. “The Mazda 3’s strong suit is value-minded performance,” said one of our editors. The steering is tight, the braking is excellent and it handles more like a sports car than an econobox. Both engines have good power, though the bigger 2.3-liter engine is peppier and accelerates more quickly from a standstill. The few minor gripes involved engine noise and the Mazda 3’s firm ride.

The Vancouver House Market Boom!
by Eric F.
In the Vancouver home buying business it seems that investors are leading the charge, some buying an estimated 10 or even hundreds of properties. The payoff these investors are looking for is to sell them at peak, Olympics 2010. There are many smart and also greedy builders along with realtors that are holding some major home inventory. They sell them slowly to maximize profits so they are the ones actually helping to drive up prices. Now lets not point the finger at them alone it takes more then just saying this group or that group. It’s about educating yourself on the tactics of the real estate market.
The same thing happen in the US where there was an abnormal buying frenzy for years, every one was looking for pay dirt. Sadly many of the amateur and realtor investors got caught with properties no longer worth what they paid. Now I am not saying money will and cannot be made but it’s risky for many trying to make big money on real estate in Vancouver. It’s like playing the stock market for some it’s a living but for many it’s a gamble, just remember it’s a major investment for an up and down market.
Do you know that renting in Vancouver is cheaper then owning, as there are huge cost associated with owning your own property. Not to mention those who own multiple properties and even rent those out until they can sell high. Renters will find themselves having to leave properties they call home so the seller can gain the greatest yield, who could blame them. It’s always a good idea to ask questions up front and read your rental contract closely if renting from a private owner in Vancouver.
So now imaging the prices peak then start to drop, imagine the panic in Vancouver because no one is interested in buying your property. So no longer can owners afford the heavy price tag of their investment and they start to sell but normally along with everyone else. Eventually the owners are forced to drop and wait for offers along with everyone else in the same position. Of course the professional investors would never let on that something was wrong with the housing market because they do not want to show the truth of dropping home prices, it would send many a buyer running scared. So they will hold properties until the smoke clears. If the big investors start to sell it will create an even a bigger panic and their properties will weaken further, so it’s best they time it just right. I would not want to be an investor that had to offload 3 homes let alone 30 around the housing downturn. No longer will offers be flying in the door but no offers and very few people coming to look due to the extremely high availability, it will boil down to comparables and location.
Right now the interest rate is still comparatively low and Asian and Europe economies are doing very well but who knows what will happen, take heed of our neighbors to the south. The bottom line is properties in Vancouver are currently over valued comparatively, most certainly inflated when compared to other cities. It’s a wild card decision to invest or even buy in Vancouver right now with interest rates and the overall world economy. So just investor beware, time it right or get caught in the aftermath of the Vancouver housing market slide.

The Capri Motor Inn and O’Doul’s opened in the early 1970’s under the ownership of a Vancouver legend – Tommy O’Bryan. The restaurant was a huge success, famous for its Irish coffees, Eggs Benedicts, ferns, overhead trains and friendly atmosphere. Tommy named the restaurant after Lefty O’Doul, a baseball player with a batting average to rival Ty Cobb’s and a reputation as a wonderful guy. He played in the Pacific Coast League and lived in Vancouver in the mid-1950’s when Tommy met him.
Tommy sold the property to the Springer-Molthagen family of Vancouver and they swung into action – tearing the building down in 1985 and wisely reopening in May 1986 just in time for the wildly popular Expo ’86. The new hotel was an immediate hit on the Vancouver hotel and restaurant scene winning countless awards for its design and calibre and having no trouble keeping itself full.
In 1992 the Hotel was sold to Listel Canada, a company wholly owned by the innovative Suzuki family of Tokyo. They’ve owned it ever since.
In the late 1990’s, while renovating about half of the Hotel’s rooms, a decision was made to focus on the arts and artists. Soon jazz became a nightly event, original and limited artwork was hung in rooms and public hallways, poetry was etched in windows, books were published and CDs produced. We love being known as Vancouver’s “most art-full hotel” and “a cultural tourist’s dream”!

Vancouver Cruises Discount Dream Cruise Ship Vacations
by Tom Willingham
There are so many families & people, millions of them that would jump at the chance to go on a Vancouver Cruise if only they could afford it. Instead of the cruise ship vacation they end up going to Disneyland or maybe some camping but the real dream is lost to the feelings that they can’t afford a cruise. You can afford many cruise Vancouver excursions. Discounts exist that make it possible for low budget travelers to make that dream a reality. With the right frame of mind and positive visualization you can accomplish everything you imagine. Don’t limit your vision and creativity a Vancouver Cruise Ship is waiting for you!
So now that we know your wish is a Vancouver Cruise don’t let what may look impossible get in the way of receiving your reward which is the manifestation of your heart felt desire to do this. Go look at the cruise ships and imagine yourself on the cruise of your life. Imagine what it would feel like and believe it or not you will find yourself on your dream cruise. Don’t take this method of visualizing what you want it will work.
Now start planning for your Vancouver Cruise. Budget and make some small sacrifices but keep your focus on the goal the law of attraction will bring it to pass. Start making a list of things you want to do on the cruise, believe for your manifestation, be grateful for it and know it will come to you.
The more money you need for this cruise, the harder it may be to keep your focus you may start to doubt. When you visualize you materialize. The next step is to do all the obvious things and determine where all of your money ends up every month. Rent, mortgage or spending habits. Everything from the mortgage payment, rent, car insurance, even that cup of coffee you purchased should be recorded.
Don’t wonder how this cruise will come to pass, you see the numbers and they say no. Don’t let that be what you focus on. The how of this miracle is not your worry. The money will come. You may get a $10,000 idea. The power of visualization will attract situations; people, pay raises or maybe a better job.
After documenting your spending habits for a week or a month, you will have to examine your findings. Many individuals are surprised to learn how much money they are wasting on unnecessary purchases. These purchases often include, but are not limited to single serve beverages, cigarettes, alcohol, and out-of-home dining. To save money for your cruise ship vacation, you will need to cut all unnecessary purchases.
Cutting unnecessary purchases may sound easy, but the reality is that it often isn’t. There are some individuals who cannot do without their cigarettes or their morning cup of coffee. If you are unable to curb your spending habits, you are encouraged to change them as much as possible. For instance, instead of purchasing a cup of coffee each morning, you can brew your own at home. Additional alterations could be made to prevent your habits from impacting your cruise ship vacation fund.
When saving money for a vacation aboard a cruise ship, you need to make sure that you actually save the money. All too often, many individuals take the money they saved by creating a monthly budget and spend it on something other than what they originally intended. If you find it difficult to hold on to your savings, you may want to open a savings account at your local bank. In addition to accumulating interest, you are less likely to spend the money because it is safely tucked away.
Curbing your spending habits is one of the best ways to raise funds to take your dream vacation aboard a cruise ship. While saving money is important, it is not the only way that you can plan a cruise ship vacation on a budget. There are a large number of online travel websites. These websites may offer you significant deals and savings. Other cruise discounts can be obtained through membership clubs or your local travel agent.
Obtaining the finances needed for your Vancouver cruise ship getaway may seem like a difficult task, but aftertime it may become a part of your daily routine. Saving money and obtaining cruise ship discounts are both great ways to obtain the needed financing, but together they can save you more money than you ever imagined.
And last on my list is to never stop dreaming and believing and feeling like this cruise is really going to happen, like it is already yours.

Vancouver Celebrity Cruises, Affordable Adventure
by Tom Willingham
I’ve heard a lot of celebrity cruises advertised on the radio, you may have seen advertisements on the television too. Not just celebrities but maybe a kind of group you would like to meet and socialize with. Singles? Christian Cruises. These kinds of cruises your celebrity is vacationing aboard a cruise ship and they want you to join them. The advertisement you heard is for a celebrity cruise. Celebrity cruises are gaining popularity in the Untied States and all around the world. The question that many want answered is, are they worth the money?
Celebrity cruises should not be confused with Celebrity Cruise Lines. Celebrity cruises are cruises that are offered by a wide range of different cruise line companies. The intention of a celebrity cruise is to attract travelers. To do this, celebrity cruises are booked with well-known television stars, movie stars, and musicians. For some reason, and they are right, cruises lines know that fans follow their idols.
If you are interested in determining whether or not a celebrity cruise is worth the money, there are a number of factors that you should first consider. One of the most important factors is the purpose of the cruise. A number of well-known musicians, television stars, and movie stars are compensated for their appearance. While this may not have a direct impact your reservation, it may be in your best interest to know.
In addition to being compensated for their appearance, a large number of movie stars, television stars, and musicians use a celebrity cruise to promote one of their upcoming shows, movies, or music albums. It is not guaranteed, but you may be granted behind the scenes information and footage. To many fans, this information makes a celebrity cruise worth it.
Promoting a charity or another good cause is another reason why a number of well-know celebrities make the decision to participate in a cruise ship voyage. If you are interested in promoting a specific charity or cause, you may find it beneficial, in more ways than one, to attend the cruise. In addition to being able to meet one of your favorite celebrities, you could be helping to bring awareness to one of the many world charities that need assistance in Vancouver.
Another important factor to consider when deciding on a celebrity cruise is the amount of time the celebrity will be onboard. Due to busy schedules, celebrities may be unable to stay onboard for the whole length of the cruise. To determine whether or not a celebrity cruise is worth the money, you will want to know how long each celebrity will be on board. If they will only be onboard one or two days, you may find that the cruise is not worth your time or money.
In addition to the length of a celebrity’s stay, you will want to know when certain promotional events are scheduled. These events should be established ahead of time. To determine when you may be able to dine with, meet, or get an autograph from your favorite movie star, musician, or television star, you should check the ship’s itinerary. This will enable you to determine if you will even get a chance to meet the celebrity onboard.
It is also important to estimate how many passengers will be the celebrity cruise you wish to take. The number of onboard passengers may have an impact on how much time you get to spend with the cruise ship celebrity. If there are a large number of onboard passengers and the celebrity will only be on the ship for a short period of time you may be unable to meet with them. This is something that should be closely examined when determining if a celebrity cruise is worth any value to you or your family.
Finally, the cost of the celebrity cruise should be closely examined. The cost of a celebrity cruise is often higher than other traditional cruises. This is because you are often paying to meet the person who is onboard. That is why it is important to take the above mentioned factors into consideration.
Celebrity cruises are nice, but a celebrity is not the only reason why you should plan a vacation on a cruise ship. You can still enjoy a Vancouver cruise, with or without a celebrity.

It is also advised that you considered any membership clubs that you belong to. Triple A is a well-known travel agency. In addition to providing roadside vehicle assistance, they also offer valuable discounts on a wide range of vacations. AARP is another membership club that regularly offer travel discounts to its senior members. These discounts often include airline tickets and cruise ship reservations. Additional membership clubs may offer discounts. The only way to determine if discounts are available is to ask a club representative.
One alternative to researching Vancouver cruise ship discounts yourself is to obtain the services of a professional travel agent. Travel agents operate online and locally. You may be able to obtain the services of a low-cost travel agent. Travel agents are popular. In addition to researching and suggesting particular cruise ships, they are often offered discounts that are not available to the general public.
With a small amount of time and research or professional assistance, you can easily obtain discount cruise ship tickets. Why avoid cruises altogether or pay full price for a reservation that can be obtained for a discount? Feel Happy!

Vancouver Cruise Expenditure Estimations
by Tom Willingham
In most cases the choice of a vacation can be decide on with two methods. The first is to look at what your job is bringing in and regular income amount total out to be. Truthfully everyone should be concerned with the cost and be prepared for a few unexpected needs. You my find a great deal on some jewelry it almost always happens that you find something you will need the extra money for. I think even the rich upper class people do a little bargain shopping to find the best acceptable rate with the amenities they are accustomed too.
Naturally we are assuming your plans are to take a Vancouver based cruise ship. Here are a few tips to estimate how much you are going to need.
The first tip this game can be a positive one or a negative one filled with fear, doubt and worry. You will need to start with expenditure costs involved with the Cruise Liner you embark on. Often times when you hear the cost involved a feeling of fear, shock and dismay will come over you. Don’t let this be a hindrance, instead look at it in a positive light, with joy and happiness that you are actually taking a Vancouver Cruise. You have purposed in your mind that you are going to get the funds to do this and even though you don’t know exactly how you leave that to do it’s job. This is called the law of attraction and you have now called this into your life because thoughts become things. Sounds crazy eh? Try it on something small first if you like but you can have anything you want, be anything you want just bring it into existence.
OK, some practical ideas for the skeptical. Select your cruise line and make your inquiries, compare what the different cruise lines that port in Vancouver are offering, do they have all inclusive plans. This is because a number of Vancouver cruise ships offer all-inclusive vacation packages. All-inclusive cruise ship packages may seem high priced, but you often do not have to worry about carrying along excessive amounts of money.
In addition to the type of cruise ship package you select, you will also need to consider where your cruise ship will depart from and what its destination is. If you are unable to book a vacation aboard a cruise ship with a departure port located near your home, you will have to include the cost of reaching the port of your departure.
If you are planning a cruise ship vacation, on a budget, the method of travel you select could have a significant impact on the overall cost of your vacation. For long distance travel you may want to compare the cost of airline tickets, bus tickets, or train tickets. Air travel is often considered the most preferred method of travel, but it is the most expensive. In addition to purchasing a bus ticket, airplane ticket, or train ticket, you may want to examine the cost of driving your own vehicle.
As previously mentioned, all-inclusive cruise ship packages help to eliminate the cost of food, drinks, and entertainment. While all-inclusive packages are nice, they are often hard to come by. If you are unable to book an all-inclusive cruise, will have to estimate the amount of money you will spend onboard. This estimate is not only important to estimating the cost of your vacation, but it should also be used to make sure you bring along enough spending money.
Estimating the cost of onboard entertainment is often easier than estimating the cost of your food and drinks. Most cruise lines have websites that offer detailed information on all of their ships. This information is also likely to include the cost of using a particular entertainment facility. You will find that many cruise ships charge their passengers to watch a movie, view a performance, or participate in many onboard activities. These onboard activities may include, but are not limited to, rock climbing, onboard surfing, gambling lessons, dance lessons, and swimming lessons.
Speaking of gambling, if you are interested in gambling on a cruise ship casino, you will need to keep this in mind when estimating the cost of your vacation. As with most land-based casinos, you can gamble with different amounts of money. If you are planning to estimate the cost of your vacation, you are encouraged to estimate the amount of money you will spend gambling. Since estimating money spent on gambling is difficult, you will want to aim your estimate high.
As previously mentioned, estimating the cost of your food and drinks can also be a difficult task. You can estimate the number of meals and drink you will have in a day, but it is important to remember that it is only an estimate. It is also difficult to estimate the cost of your onboard food and drinks because cruise ship menus are often difficult or impossible to obtain online. As with cruise ship gambling, it is advised that you overestimate the cost of food and drinks.
In addition to the cost of food, child care, travel, entertainment, and gambling it is advised that you consider the cost of obtaining items or souvenirs at the ports your ship plans on docking at. Whether you need to know if you can afford a cruise ship vacation or you’d just like to know where your money is going, there are an unlimited number of ways to estimate the total cost of your vacation.

The usual mental imagery we have when we think of a themed cruise is practically instinctive, I imagine or visualize of themed cruises that cater to the family with kids one that particularly comes to mind is the Disney Cruise lines and those designed to spark the fantasy of children and establish warm memories of family fun and the escape to magical world Disney with their cartoon characters and all.
While it is true that cruises designed for families with children are the most popular kind of get away. There are other types of themes you can find. In your search on the search engines, you will find an abundance of Family themed cruise ships but dig deeper or even hire a travel agent to do all the leg work.
In addition to the Disney cruise with its particular cartoon characters, it is possible to book a traditional family cruise without Mickey and the gang. To be considered a themed cruise cartoon characters do not have to be present. Simply targeting the cruise to individuals with children is enough to have a created a themed cruise ship. Themed cruise ships with a family focus often include a wide range of services, facilities, and activities that are tailored to children of all ages.
So as I was saying while family themed cruise ships are often considered the most popular, thankfully they are not the only themed cruises obtainable. For example one of the hottest themed cruises on the high seas is celebrity cruises. These are highly sought after cruise themes that many cruise lines offer.
Celebrity cruises have special onboard guests. These guests may include popular television stars, movie stars, and music artists. Special dinners and autograph sessions are often included in a celebrity cruise.
Romance is another theme that many cruise lines focus on. Romance themed cruises are offered onboard a number of different cruise ships. These cruise ships often target couples. To keep the ship setting mature and in good nature, an age restriction may be placed on passengers. Age restrictions are effective at eliminating excess amounts of children aboard a ship that is designed for couples. Romance is a wide theme that covers many categories. These categories are likely to include honeymoons, weddings, and anniversaries.
In addition to the above mentioned themed cruises, there are a number of other cruise ship themes. These themes may include, but are not limited to, dancing, movies, gambling, and adventure. Almost all cruises ships have a casino or gaming facility. It is also possible to find a cruise ship that offer gambling as their theme. These cruises are often referred to as casino cruises.
Cruise ships with dancing themes are popular among individuals of all ages. Despite their wide range of popularity, dancing cruises are often most enjoyed by senior citizens. Dancing cruises tend to offer a number of different dancing halls. Each of these halls may incorporate a different style of music. In a way, dancing cruises can also be considered romantic. There are many travelers who enjoy being able to relax and spend quality time with their dancing partner.
Thrill seekers may find fun aboard a cruise ship with an adventure theme. Traditional cruise ship services, facilities, and activities can be found aboard a cruise ship. In addition to traditional cruise ship services, it is likely that you will find a number of onboard activities designed for those seeking a thrill. Many of these activities include onboard surfing and rock climbing. The adventure activities found aboard a themed cruise will all depend on the cruise ship in question. As more cruise ships are being developed, so are the number of activities designed for those who want action and adventure.
It is easy to see that there are a number of different themed cruises. If you are interested in scheduling a vacation aboard a themed cruise ship, you will need to find the cruise ship of your choice. This can most easily be done by searching for the activities or themes that you most enjoy participating in.

Vancouver Cruise Ships, Family Fun For All!
by Tom Willingham
It’s that time; you know when you make plans for your vacation this year or not. You are not alone because every year millions of people have the same unexplainable urge. Summer is coming!
I saw a report recently on how well the cruise ship industry is doing in spite of economic condition in some parts of the world. Why is that do you think?
I believe it is because a cruise ship vacation is like being a king or queen as your every need is met. Gourmet food, shore excursions, onboard activities, Vegas style shows and casinos, a gym, hot tubs, swimming pool, disco dance halls, cigar bar, in fact bars with alcoholic beverages are not is short supply. This is heaven on every side and your adventures are just beginning. Where else can you get all this luxury and splendor at surprisingly bargain prices?
Sure other very popular vacation destinations include amusement parks, beaches, and campgrounds. I’m very fond of Key West myself. However, it’s not as hard as you may thing to get your whole family on a Vancouver cruise ship.
Vancouver Cruise ships have been successfully operating for a number of years now. Thousands of families take a summer journey aboard a Vancouver cruise ship, but even more people don’t even consider it as an affordable option. If you are seeking for a wondrously different way to spend quality time with your family, while building extraordinary family memories, let me exhort you to at least consider the benefits you get with a Vancouver cruise ship.
You will experience the best family get-away you’ve ever had. Our cruise ships are very family friendly and you will miss one of the greatest opportunities of your life vacationing any where else. Family cruises are popular and a huge quantity of cruise lines, each presenting optional family plan cruises. With all of the cruise ships at your beckon call, there is little doubt you won’t find several cruises that can offer your family the very best of water, land and sea excitement.
Vancouver cruise ships include dinners, movies, and plays just to name few of the family activities that are found aboard the ship. Additional activities may be available. The family activities found on a cruise ship frequently depends on the cruise ship your on. A large number of ships have activities that are designed specifically for children. While your children are participating in this fun but supervised activities, you could be enjoying a private moment with your spouse.
This really is within your reach and you are encouraged to start focusing on this while your researching. Try starting like this, search on Google, Yahoo, MSN what ever your favorite search portal. Type “Vancouver cruise ships” into the search field. Whether you’re a real computer geek or you barley know how to turn on the computer, This research can be done easily and by examining a number of cruise ships you will get a really good feel for what is going on in the industry.
Now you’ve done your search, you’ve got your cruise figured out in a general scenario. I would advise you remember the benefits of each cruise ship and then let a professional travel agent take it the rest of the way. You know you can do it yourself but travel agencies can get some fantastic deals that you did not see in your online search. They don’t charge much for the service and I highly recommend them from start to finish. Though family cruises are generally the safest bet you do have a lot more to choose from that’s where the agent can help you with the inside scoop and possible discounts.
So, For a small fee, a travel agent can research and arrange your next family cruise ship vacation. In addition to compiling information on family cruise ships, your travel agent is also likely to offer you a satisfaction guaranteed policy. These policies are designed to assist you or offer you a refund in the event your vacation is unsuccessful or not what you expected.
If you can not afford to have a travel agent manage everything for you, you should be able to book your own cruise vacation online with only a small amount of frustration. Many of the large reputable cruise lines have websites and a list of cruise ports they visit. You can view a list of activities, excursions and to make this point clear. Book your excursions at this time. Most of them are already sold out a soon as you board. This plus prices and additional amenities could be confusing but over all you should be able to get your cruise booked. Just don’t say I didn’t tell you to use a travel agent. They are professionals and can be your inside man to the best of everything on the cruise.
Whether you book your own family cruise vacation or you use the professional assistance of a travel agent, you are likely to enjoy your vacation choice. In fact, so many families enjoy the family vacation they took aboard a cruise ship that many return the next year.

Bill C-51 regulation on natural health products
Canadian Rights And Freedoms Are At Risk
An Important Notice Regarding Bill C-51
On April 8th, 2008, the Canadian Minister of Health introduced Bill C-51 into the House of Commons. This Bill proposes significant changes to the current Food and Drugs Act that will have wide-ranging negative implications for Canadians.
Bill C-51 Will:
· Remove democratic oversight, bypassing elected officials to vote in laws and allow bureaucrats to adopt laws from other countries without our consent.
· Remove 70% of Natural Health Products from Canadians and many others will be available by prescription only.
· Restrict research and development of safe natural alternatives in favor of high risk drugs.
· Punish Canadians with little or no opportunity for protection or recourse for simply speaking about or giving a natural product without the approval of government. More than 70% of people in Canada use a Natural Health Product. The new law goes so far as to warrant action against a person who would give another person an “unapproved” amount of garlic on the recommendation that it would improve that person’s health.
· Proposed New Enforcement Powers:
· Proposed New Enforcement Powers:
· Inspectors will enter private property without a warrant
· Inspectors will take your property at their discretion
· Inspectors will dispose of your property at will
· Inspectors will not reimburse you for your losses
· Inspectors will seize your bank accounts
Bill C-51 a crackdown on regulating natural health products
· Inspectors will charge owners shipping and storage charges for seized property
· Inspectors will be empowered to store your property indefinitely
· Inspectors will levy fines of up to $5,000,000.00 and/or seek 2 years in jail per incident
With your assets and money under their control will you be able to defend yourself in Court? Can you trust government with this new law and enforcement power? Would our government really ever turn this law against us? Read the following account.
Example
In 2003 Health Canada launched an attack on a group of mentally ill patients and the company who supported them naturally. They seized shipments of a safe natural therapy required by the patients and stormed the support center with 17 armed officers and agents. The company (Truehope) reported that they lost contact with more than 300 of their Canadian participants. The Canadian Mental Health Association told of suicides as a result of government action.
Health Canada then charged the not for profit company, burdening them with heavy legal costs. Truehope was found innocent by necessity and instructed by the judge to continue under legal and moral responsibility. Although the agents admitted knowing they were injuring people through their actions, they stated under oath they care only about policy and directive. And what happened to the more than 300 mentally ill Canadians that became unreachable? In the months and years following, reports of hospitalizations and suicides during the seizures have surfaced. No Health Canada agent has ever been charged.

VoIP Canada
by Eric
What is VoIP, Voice Over IP?
First question to get out of the way is what is VoIP ? Plain and simple it's voice over the Internet calling from your computer. The most inexpensive way to go is to use your computer with speakers or a headset/hedphones, a typical computer microphone and a high speed connection (DSL or Cable). Throughout the world people are discovering that Internet phone service (voice over ip) is not only a new but also an easier way to communicate but cost much less and many are free, we will get to that later. Traditional hard line or land line phone service can charge many different types of fees including high rates to other countries. Internet phone service lets users make cheap phone calls using their broadband Internet connection and either using an Internet phone or what we talked about earlier, a microphone and speakers.
So who do you choose as your VoIP provider, after all you want clear service and a company that offers the latest features and technologies. After all communications over a VoIP connection can be used for businesses or personal, it equals internet phone service that is easy and fun to use.
Paid VoIP EXAMPLE, Typical Voice Over IP Provider:
Lets say you live in Vancouver where you use your VoIP phone. Your sister lives in Ontario her area code is 705. So you just sign up for a telephone number in the 705 area code that rings in Ontario with typical providers like Vonage or Skype. The best thing is you or your sister do not have to pay long distance chargers when she calls you and most outgoing calls are totally free and usage is unlimited (high volume VoIP traffic is monitored). There is no limit on the amount of telephone numbers you can have and no matter what the number will ring anywhere in the world you connect using your VoIP phone. In other words you have your phone you unplug it and pack it for that important trip. Later you get to your hotel and plug it in and the number is active, it follows you around (based on the hotel having high speed connection).
Free VoIP EXAMPLE:
Ok now this is even better for many, remember the microphone and speaker deal hooked to your computer, well good news, Skype offers free computer to computer calls to anywhere in the world. It’s a Google company so it stands to good reason they give us something big for free. You download the Skype software and setup a username. The next thing is to add a friend to your list, very much like a typical Instant Messenger (IM). Click the call button to your friend or family, business associate, whomever, all they have to have is the software running on their computer. You connect and most the time its a crystal clear communication. So you want more, ok, Skype also let’s you video chat for free so if you have a webcam then turn it on and talk away. Skype also has a VoIP phone you can buy and use like a regular phone. They do have a paid service and that is if you want an actually phone number.
Remember when replacing your home phone or business phone with a VoIP phone you need to realize that many emergency services may not be able to pinpoint your location in the event of an emergency. Something are good to know and ask a head of time to any provider you choose.
Keeping Your Existing Number.
If you would like to keep your existing phone number then with many of the providers you can or just opt for a new number. There are a few plans to choose from and as with anything there is basic and unlimited service calling to and from the US/Canada. Of course there are many other plans and many of the VoIP providers including many more countries.
Virtual DID phone numbers (DID will be covered in the next article on VoIP) DID briefly DID is just a virtual number so you can have a Mexico phone number and still live in Canada. Choose a US/Canada unlimited plan which provides a flat rate monthly plan perfect to replace you existing your existing phone service.
This will be an ongoing article and will include best providers and price comparisons in the next installment, plus much more.

2010 Winter Olympics - Vancouver
by
The 2010 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XXI Olympic Winter Games or the 21st Winter Olympics, will take place in 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Both the Olympic and Paralympic Games are being organized by the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC).
The 2010 Winter Olympics will be the third Olympics hosted by Canada, and the first by the province of British Columbia. Previously, Canada was home to the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal and the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. The villages of Whistler and Garibaldi bid for the games in 1976 but failed to win. These will also be the first games to be held in an NHL market since the league allowed to its players to participate starting in 1998.
Following Olympic tradition, current Vancouver mayor Sam Sullivan received the Olympic flag during the closing ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, which was also attended by Governor General Michaëlle Jean and Premier of British Columbia, Gordon Campbell. The flag was raised on February 28, 2006, in a special flag raising ceremony, and will be on display at Vancouver's city hall until the Olympic opening ceremony. At the same time, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said in a statement that the Olympic flame had begun its journey to Vancouver.
Bidding
The Canadian Olympic Association chose Vancouver as the Canadian candidate city over Calgary, which sought to re-host the games and Quebec City, which had lost the 2002 Olympic bid in 1995. On the first round of voting on November 21, 1998, Vancouver-Whistler had 26 votes, Quebec City with 25 and Calgary 21. On December 3, 1998, the second and final round of voting occurred between the two leading contenders, which saw Vancouver win with 40 votes compared to Quebec City's 32. The win allowed Vancouver to prepare its bid and begin lobbying efforts internationally.
Contruction
The initial problem Vancouver faced in winning the bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics was fundraising for construction of venues. The Bid Committee, and subsequently VANOC, arranged for commitments of investment on a 50/50 basis by the federal and provincial governments, primarily for amounts to cover venue construction costs. It later began to achieve sponsorships and donations from private corporations and institutions. Such commitments were made enthusiastically as a chance to build on the world prestige Vancouver already gained as host of the 1986 World's Fair and to improve on the technological advances made during that event, like the expansion of the SkyTrain transit system.

1924 Olympic Games
by
There were more changes to be had when the 1924 Paris Games came to be. The Olympic motto, “Swifter, Higher, Stronger”, was introduced, as was the Closing Ceremony ritual of raising three flags: the flag of the International Olympic Committee, the flag of the host nation and the flag of the next host nation.
The Olympics were gaining widespread acceptance as a major event, evidenced by the increase number of nations attending and the amount of journalists present. The total number of nations participating jumped from 29 to 44, with over 3,000 athletes participating, and there were an astounding 1,000 journalists on hand.
Women’s fencing made its debut, with Ellen Osiier of Denmark rightfully earning the gold medal without losing a single bout. Yet, because of problems determining amateur status, tennis was taken off the list of events after the 1924 Olympics and were not reinstituted until 1988.
Johnny Weissmuller of the United States won two gold medals in swimming on July 20th. He may have been swimming, but he was on fire! Later that same day, he earned a bronze medal in water polo! Johnny later went to Hollywood and starred as Tarzan in twelve movies.
American swimmer Gertrude Ederle won a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle. Such an astounding swimmer was she that just two years later she caused a sensation by becoming the first woman to swim the English Channel…and she did it almost two hours faster than any man had ever achieved.
Finnish runner Paavo Nurmi, who wowed us at the 1920 Olympics, was back and won five gold medals to add to the three he had won at the former games. His most spectacular performance occurred on July 10th. First, he won the 1,500 meter, setting at Olympic record. Then, a mere 55 minutes later, he returned to the track and won the 5,000 meter, again setting another Olympic record. Additionally, he participated in the 10,000 meter cross-country run and was a member of the winning Finnish teams on the 3,000 meter relay and the 10,000 meter relay. Nurmi’s teammate, Ville Ritola, did very well for himself, too - he won four gold medals and two silver.
After much debate, winter sports were added to the Olympic Games this year. The winter events were held in January and February, in Chamonix France, creating a tradition that the winter events would be held a few months before the summer events (this tradition ended in 1992). The first Winter Olympic Games were actually called “The International Winter Sports Week” and went on for 11 days. There were 16 nations that participated in a total of 16 events. Two hundred and fifty-eight athletes were in attendance.
The events included skiing, skating, ice hockey, curling, bobsleigh, and biathlon. The Canadian Ice Hockey Team won all five of their matches. In its first four hockey games, Canada beat Switzerland 33–0, Czechoslovakia 30–0, Sweden 22–0 and Great Britain 19–2, before winning the tournament with a 6–1 victory over the U.S. in the final. USA came in as the Silver Medalist with Great Britain taking the Bronze.
